Flights to China from Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand

Direct routes, gateway cities and how to choose your entry point

FlightsPlanningGetting there

Direct routes from our region

China is well connected to Southeast Asia and the flight is short — four to six hours from most of our cities. From Kuala Lumpur there are non-stop services to Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Kunming, Chengdu, Shanghai and Beijing. From Singapore, the same set plus Hangzhou and Chongqing. From Bangkok, nearly every major Chinese city.

Frequency matters as much as the route. Guangzhou, Shanghai and Kunming typically have multiple daily departures, which means more flexibility when plans change.

Choosing your gateway city

Most travellers default to Beijing or Shanghai. Often that is the wrong choice. If your itinerary runs to Guilin and Hong Kong, China, landing in Guangzhou saves you a 2,000 km internal flight. If you want pandas and the Yangtze, Chengdu has direct flights from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. If you want nature and minority culture, Kunming is the shortest hop and the mildest climate.

The right question is not which flight is cheapest but which entry point makes the best route. We plan the itinerary and the gateway together, then tell you which arrival airport to book.

The internal sectors you should expect

A China trip that covers four cities usually needs one or two internal flights, because rail does not reach everywhere. The sectors we book most often are Xi'an–Zhangjiajie, Zhangjiajie–Guilin, Guilin–Shanghai and Chengdu–Chongqing. Domestic fares are reasonable when booked early and rise sharply close to departure.

Where high-speed rail competes — Beijing–Xi'an, Shanghai–Hangzhou, Guangzhou–Guilin — we usually recommend the train. It is faster door to door and far more comfortable.

Baggage, connections and timing

Domestic Chinese flights generally include 20 kg checked baggage in economy. Budget carriers are stricter. If you are connecting from an international arrival to a domestic departure, allow at least three hours, and note that some cities use different airports for domestic and international traffic — Shanghai especially.

We build the timings into your itinerary and will tell you honestly if a connection you have in mind is too tight.

How our pricing works. We do not publish fixed prices, because a fixed price would either overcharge a couple or underdeliver for a group of nine. Every itinerary is quoted individually against your dates, hotel standard and group size, with everything itemised in writing. Send us your travel window and we will come back within 24 hours with a full quotation and no obligation.
Questions

Frequently asked

Which Chinese city is cheapest to fly into from Kuala Lumpur?
Guangzhou, Kunming and Chengdu are usually competitive with Beijing and Shanghai, and often cheaper. The better question is which one makes a better route, and we plan that together.
How long is the flight from Kuala Lumpur to China?
About four hours to Kunming or Guangzhou, five to Shanghai and Chengdu, six to Beijing. All are non-stop from Kuala Lumpur on at least one airline.
Do you book international flights?
Yes, through our ticketing desk, and you do not need to book a tour with us to use it. We route you on non-stop options first and only consider connections when they clearly help.
Should we fly or take the train between Chinese cities?
Fly for the long hops where rail does not reach, such as Xi'an to Zhangjiajie. Take the train wherever high-speed rail competes — it is faster door to door and much more comfortable.
